Replacing Light Source Lens for Quartz Sand Color Sorter
When replacing the light source lens of a quartz sand color sorter, the harsh working conditions featuring heavy quartz sand dust, easily-scratched transparent lenses and dust-prone optical surfaces must be fully considered. The whole procedure focuses on power cut & dust prevention, standardized handling, alignment calibration and test run verification. Improper operation may lead to offset light spots, increased stray light, and consequently false or missed rejection during color sorting.
Pre-operation safety and environmental preparation are prerequisites for lens replacement. Shut down the main unit and cut off the power supply of the light source circuit. Wait for the light source assembly to cool down thoroughly to avoid scalding. Turn off the dedusting fan of the sorting chamber to reduce airborne dust. Perform the work in low-dust periods. Prepare dust-free gloves, dust-free wipes, special optical cleaner, dust-free air blower, matching sealing rings and a new lens of the same model. Quartz sand workshops have high dust concentration; disassemble the optical chamber quickly to minimize dust deposition on lamp holders, reflectors and lenses. Record the original mounting direction of the lens, quantity of gaskets and positions of fixing screws for restoration.
Dismantle the light source module and take out the old lens in sequence. Remove the side shield or light chamber cover of the quartz sand color sorter, and take care not to tear the sealing rubber strip. Loosen the lens retainer ring or fasteners and take out the old lens slowly. Only hold the lens edge and never touch the optical coating surface directly. Check the failure mode of the old lens: replace it directly if scratched, coating peeled or heavily fouled beyond cleaning; evaluate reuse if only superficially dusty. Clean quartz dust attached to the lens seat, reflector and retainer ring. Residual dust disturbs the optical path and causes uneven illumination. Inspect gaskets and O-rings; replace hardened, cracked or deformed ones to prevent dust and moisture ingress later.
Install and align the new lens to secure the basic optical path of the quartz sand color sorter. Remove the protective film of the new lens, wear dust-free gloves and grip only the edge. Confirm the front and back sides, with the coated surface facing the light output side. Place the lens steadily into the seat, reinstall gaskets in original order, and tighten the retainer ring evenly. Excessive unilateral force will cause stress deformation and optical distortion. After installation, blow loose dust off the lens gently with an air blower. Visually inspect for fingerprints, fibers or particles. Refit the light chamber cover, align the sealing strip and tighten screws evenly to keep the chamber sealed against persistent quartz dust intrusion.
Optical path adjustment and parameter calibration are critical after lens replacement. After covering the chamber, power on the light source alone and check spot uniformity. Adjust the light source angle or lens position if the spot is dim, uneven or blurred at edges. Quartz sand color sorting requires consistent brightness and color temperature. For multi-channel models, compare output of each channel and keep brightness difference within allowable range. Enter the equipment tuning interface, collect reference signals from the background plate, recalibrate light source benchmarks and update compensation parameters. If the unit has built-in brightness monitoring, verify readings are within normal range.
Carry out no-load test and material test to confirm stable sorting. After optical calibration, run the machine without feed first, activate dedusting and blowing systems, and check for abnormal vibration of the light source and lens. Then feed a small amount of quartz sand sample for continuous sorting. Compare sorting performance before and after lens replacement, and monitor false and missed rejection rates. If sorting is unstable, recheck lens installation, sealing and spot condition. Once qualified, record replacement date, lens model and calibration parameters in the equipment maintenance log.
Implement protection and routine inspection to extend lens service life. Quartz sand is hard and continuously abrades the lens. Maintain good sealing of the light chamber. Inspect the built-in automatic blowing device regularly and ensure clean air supply with oil and water removal for compressed air. Monitor brightness change in daily patrols, and clean the lens surface periodically with dedicated dust-free supplies following optical cleaning specifications. Ordinary cloth or paper must not wipe the coated surface. Set regular replacement cycles; shorten inspection intervals for high-load quartz sand sorting to avoid performance degradation from lens wear.
In summary, the core points for replacing the light source lens of a quartz sand color sorter are power-off cooling, dust-proof disassembly, standardized lens handling, reliable sealing, light spot calibration and trial sorting with quartz sand samples. Combined with regular chamber blowing maintenance, dust abrasion on optical lenses is reduced, stable light output is guaranteed, and consistent color sorting performance is maintained.
